After promising to return to Springfield to work for their districts and address affordability, House Democrats spent the first week of session doing anything but.

On the opening day of session, Democrats were in the chamber for less than 30 minutes. The following day was consumed almost entirely by politically motivated resolutions attacking federal law enforcement, resolutions that did nothing to lower costs for Illinois families, or address the affordability crisis Democrats themselves created.
State Representatives Chris Miller (R-Hindsboro), Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville), Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich), Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City), Jed Davis (R-Yorkville), and Marty McLaughlin (R-Barrington Hills) held a press conference this week highlighting the looming budget pressures, wasteful spending, and the need for Illinois DOGE implementation.

Every child deserves the love, stability, and support of a permanent family. National Adoption Day, held annually on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, is a reminder of the need to help children in foster care find loving homes. This year, on November 23rd, communities across Illinois and the nation will unite to raise awareness about adoption and celebrate the thousands of families formed through it each year.

State Representative Adam Niemerg's first official act of the new year was to honor the first responders who provided invaluable assistance after the tragic accident involving a fatal anhydrous ammonia leak caused by a traffic accident.

On Friday night September 29, 2023, a semi-truck carrying 7,500 gallons of anhydrous ammonia was involved in a traffic accident on Highway 40 in Teutopolis, about 93 miles southeast of Springfield. The accident and subsequent leak of anhydrous ammonia, led to five fatalities and eleven injuries as well as the evacuation of nearly 500 people from the east side of the rural community of Teutopolis.
