Cabello files Bill to Repeal Assault Weapons Ban

In a move to uphold Illinoisans’ Second Amendment rights, State Representative John M. Cabello today announced the filing of House Bill 4328 (HB4328). This bill would fully repeal the Illinois Assault Weapons Ban which went into effect on January 1, 2024 – despite the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) having yet to approve the rules that implement the ban.

Rep. Cabello emphasized, “The right to bear arms is a founding principle of our nation and any citizen – whether in red Texas or blue Illinois – should be guaranteed the right to bear arms. This legislation is a crucial step towards returning this fundamental right to the citizens of Illinois and ensures that our citizens’ constitutional freedoms are not only recognized but fully respected.”

This legislation primarily focuses on reversing the restrictions on possessing, manufacturing, and selling assault weapons and related accessories. It also seeks to reinstate the original six-month period for firearms restraining orders.
