This week, Governor JB Pritzker attempted to tout his record of delivering tax cuts to working families. But Illinois families know all too well that he has delivered higher taxes and rising costs.
Working families can thank the Governor for adding $85.6 billion to their tax burden during his administration, piling on 63 tax and fee hikes that ultimately get passed down to hardworking families and businesses.
In the last fiscal year alone, Illinois families and businesses paid $15.2 billion more in taxes than they would have before Pritzker took office.
And here is where Illinois ranks #1 in the nation under the Governor's leadership:
But that's not all. According to a WalletHub study, Illinoisans face the highest tax rates in the nation, with the study's median-household model showing a tax burden 53% above the national average.
And while the Governor continues to tout his so-called “balanced budgets,” he balances them on the backs of taxpayers. Just this year, he signed the largest budget in state history, relying on approximately $800 million in new taxes and revenue measures.
So much for providing relief.
House Republicans have offered a different path: cutting out-of-control government spending and delivering meaningful tax relief. That includes Rep. Dan Ugaste's HB 9, aimed at lowering property taxes, and Rep. Ryan Spain's HB 5738, which would temporarily suspend the state sales tax on gasoline.
