Each year, when Democrats give state legislators a paise raise, Rep. Schmidt takes the percentage and gives it back to communities in the form food donations to help families in need. Since 2023, Rep. Schmidt has helped countless individuals receive essential groceries and basic necessities with his outreach efforts and donations. Between food deserts and low-income households, Rep. Schmidt’s efforts have made a big impact on communities across 114 District. During the 103rd General Assembly, Rep. Schmidt voted yes on Senate Bill 850, legislation that aims to improve food insecurity in urban and rural food deserts.
“I have voted against salary increases for state legislators because Illinois families are struggling and I want them to know simply acts of kindness can make a big difference in our communities,” said Schmidt. “On top of legislation I support that helps working families get ahead, I’m grateful to be in a position to donate my pay raise each year to help the less fortunate.”
