Storms lash central and southern Illinois

Strong thunderstorms swept across the state on Thursday, dropping record amounts of rain in Peoria and causing substantial wind and hail damage throughout central and southern Illinois. Towns in the Effingham area measured around five inches of rain over two days.

While Illinois appears to have avoided any tornadoes, and was spared serious injury or loss of life, the storms still left their mark in places across the state, such as this farm near Sandoval in the district of Rep. John Cavaletto (R-Salem).
