After promising to return to Springfield to work for their districts and address affordability, House Democrats spent the first week of session doing anything but.
On the opening day of session, Democrats were in the chamber for less than 30 minutes. The following day was consumed almost entirely by politically motivated resolutions attacking federal law enforcement, resolutions that did nothing to lower costs for Illinois families, or address the affordability crisis Democrats themselves created.
Representatives Spain, Ugaste, Windhorst, Keicher, Deering, and Niemerg took to the House floor to call out the resolutions for what they were: distractions that do nothing to address affordability.
“This isn’t at all about affordability,” explained Representative Ugaste. “This is about nothing but politics. This whole day is about nothing but politics, finger pointing, trying to one up you, trying to get political points so that when we have elections, we have something to point a finger at someone saying they voted against this. That’s all this is about.”
“Let’s stop the theatre of house resolution governance and get back to actually working together as colleagues to accomplish good for the communities we serve,” explained Representative Spain.
Instead of focusing on real solutions, Democrats chose to grandstand. Illinois families deserve answers.
Illinois doesn’t need more speeches or symbolic votes. It needs serious leadership. House Republicans are ready to get to work and deliver real solutions that lower costs and make Illinois more affordable.

- What is Democrats’ plan to lower the cost of living for families facing some of the highest property taxes in the nation?
- Which taxes are Democrats willing to roll back so working families are no longer crushed by the cost of living?
- How do any of the resolutions passed this week make groceries, electricity, housing, or utilities more affordable?
- And when will Democrats finally admit that their own policies have made Illinois more expensive to live in?
