FAQ Vehicle Sticker Renewal Reminder Mailings

Where do I get the Registration and PIN number?
There are 2 options for obtaining the Registration and Pin Number.   A person may check their current registration card or call the Public Inquiry Division at 800-252-8980 to obtain their Registration ID and PIN number.

What if my renewal is in October or November?
After registering for our renewal in November, we get an email stating "Your license plate email renewal notification may take one renewal cycle before it is in effect."  Does this mean I will not be receiving a notification next month?

As long as a person registers to receive their registration renewal notice by email prior to the expiration of their current registration, they will be receiving a notice via email.  It will only take “one renewal cycle” if they register to receive the email renewal notice after their current registration is expired.

Can I still mail in my renewal to the Sec. of State's office or do I have to go in to a facility?
Yes, a person may choose either option.

What is the address to mail it in?
If a person desires to mail in the payment for renewal, they will need to identify their license plate type and the license plate number they wish to renew and may send their payment (in the form of a money order or check) to the following address:

Secretary of State
Vehicle Services Department
501 S. 2nd St., Room 011
Springfield, IL.  62756

What is the cost of the renewal sticker?  Where do I find this on the website?
The cost for renewal should be the same as last year.  It is shown on your registration card or you can find general renewal fees here.

A person may also call the Public Inquiry Division at 800-252-8980 to obtain the cost of a specific renewal.

What do people do if they don't have internet access or don't go online? How will they keep track of when their renewal is due?
The month and year of expiration is printed on the sticker attached to their rear license plate.  They may also call the Public Inquiry Division at 800-252-8980 to obtain renewal information.

Will this mail notification system come back?
The Office of the Secretary of State anticipates resuming mailing out renewal notices once budgetary issues are resolved.
